Source Protection Committee Member: Richard Forward
As General Manager of Infrastructure, Development & Culture with the City of Barrie, Richard Forward oversees five departments including the Engineering, Building, Planning, Culture, and Corporate Asset Management departments. His 21 years of experience working with the City includes Commissioner of Community Services, Director of Engineering, Manager of Infrastructure Planning, and Senior Project Engineer.
In July, 2008 Richard completed his MBA degree with the University of London England. He also has a Masters of Science in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Guelph University.
Richard’s community involvement includes President and Chairman of the Board of the Barrie Municipal Non-profit Housing Corporation, Board of Directors for Tourism Barrie, Board of Directors for the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. In addition, Richard volunteers with Global Medic, a Canadian organization that responds to natural disasters around the world with help in search and rescue, first aid, and with providing safe drinking water.
Richard’s work with Global Medic includes travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa in January 2010 to teach rural households how to purify their own water to ensure safe drinking water and minimize the spread of waterborne disease. He also spent 3 weeks in Pakistan in September 2010 as lead water engineer overseeing the delivery and distribution of safe drinking water to the masses of displaced people impacted by the devastation of the heavy monsoons in July of 2010.
