Source Protection Committee Member: Wendy Kemp
For the past eight years, Wendy Kemp, as the Manager of Water Resources at York Region, has been responsible for the delivery of programs that protect municipal drinking water sources across the Region. She has been extensively involved with the development of technical studies to meet the Clean Water Act. Wendy has been an active member in the sub committee working groups that support technical and planning responsibilities for the Source Protection Committee. In her role, she regularly liaises with municipalities to keep them informed of ongoing progress with the Source Protection Committee and relays their feedback to provide timely input to Committee work products.
Wendy is a Professional Geoscientist and has appeared at Ontario Municipal Board as an expert in hydrogeology. More recently, Wendy was appointed by the Minister of Environment to sit on the Lake Simcoe Coordinating Committee to help guide the implementation of the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan.
Prior to joining York Region, Wendy worked in the private sector for five years implementing management programs to mitigate environmental risks due to industrial activities. This industrial expertise will be particularly helpful in understanding local business impacts as the Source Protection Committee moves ahead to develop and implement the Source Protection Plan.
