The Black-Severn Watershed

The Black-Severn watershed, unlike the Lake Simcoe, Nottawasaga Valley and Severn Sound watersheds, does not have an ‘overarching’ organization which represents its interests and participation in the source water protection project. The Black-Severn watershed operates as a federation of municipalities, pulled together based on nature and science: source water protection is based upon watersheds versus political boundaries.

The Black-Severn watershed contains three upper tier municipalities (Simcoe, Muskoka, and Haliburton), one separated city (Orillia), one single tier municipality (City of Kawartha Lakes) and nine lower tier municipalities (Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Lake of Bays, Township of Muskoka Lakes, Township of Georgian Bay, Minden, Algonquin Highlands, Township of Severn and Township of Ramara).
