The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation AuthorityThe LSRCA is a community based environmental agency that for more than 55 years has worked to protect natural resources in the Lake Simcoe watershed, in partnership with the watershed's municipalities. The LSRCA believes that the organization’s mission and goals must be achieved in partnership with the community, municipal and other government partners. Created as the Upper Holland Valley Conservation Authority in 1951, the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority has expanded eight times as it acquired new municipal and regional partners. To represent its enlarged role in caring for the health of the Lake Simcoe its name has evolved too – Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority was adopted in 1985. The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority protects local ecosystems and contributes to quality of life in communities throughout the watershed using integrated, ecologically sound environmental practices to maintain secure supplies of clean water, to protect communities from flooding and ensure that environmental planning is an integral part of community development. LSRCA also manages large forest resources using sound and sustainable management practices involving silviculture and wildlife habitat improvements that contribute to the health of the watershed's natural environment. Recreation and education are also key objectives of the Authority and the LSRCA creates educational experiences in natural environments to enrich the lives of people of all ages by instilling an awareness and appreciation of the watershed's natural heritage. Since the Lake Simcoe Environmental Management Strategy's remedial program began in 1990, more than 350 environmental projects have resulted in preventing an estimated 16.5 tonnes of phosphorous from reaching the lake each year.
